EVENT 35 Some more notes on how to prepare and deliver a speech!

We have brought some notes on giving talks at conferences and oral presentations on Events 15 and 31! Take a look at some more tips on how to prepare and deliver your speech! You may also use the speech rubrics in this post to help you organize your talk! Dont forget to include some transition words to connect the ideas in your speech and always remember to add your final conclusions on the topic!

Your speech is not supposed to be memorized; actually, it should flow from your own knowledge of the topic!

·       Choose a topic that interests you.

·       You should have a clear idea of the topic, the purpose of the talk, and the nature of the audience.

·       Gather as much information as possible and develop an outline for the talk.

·     You may wish to prepare index cards (or notes on your cellphone hahaha ) with points outlined or choose to use visual aids to enhance your presentation.

When delivering your speech:

·       monitor volume and rate of speed to be sure everyone can hear and understand you.

·        use appropriate nonverbal cues for emphasis.

Peer assessment

When listening to your classmates’ speeches, try to answer questions such as the following:

·       What were the purposes of the talk?

·       How well was the talk timed?

·       Were visual aids used? If so, explain why they were (or were not) helpful.

·       Was the talk presented in logical sequence? Comment.

·       What might this student do in the future to improve the presentation?
